Carcinogen Alphabet:

“A” for Asbestos

Asbestos still kills around 5000 workers each year, this is  more than the number of people killed on the road. The asbestos – related diseases include; asbestosis, pleural thickening, mesothelioma and lung cancer.

Asbestos-related lung cancer is the same as (looks the same as) lung cancer caused by smoking and other causes. It is estimated that there is around one lung cancer for every mesothelioma death and in 2015 the HSE reported 2542 deaths due to mesothelioma.

In support of the “No Time to Lose” Campaign the SEL Group will be running an “Alphabet of Carcinogens” campaign and each week we shall release details regarding a different well known carcinogen.
