The Plastic Thinking Programme’s ‘Plastic Use in Sales services and Hospitality’ (PLuSH) tool is a simple, transparent review of plastic use within an organisation, which enables users to identify simple solutions to reduce their negative plastic impacts.
The scoring system is based on the PLuSH tool V2.1 which incorporates the plastic impacts of activities including: Branding, Catering, Cleaning, Events, Gifting, HR activities, Procurement, Sales, Services (as nominated) and Vending machines.
This simple audit tool can be used to benchmark companies, and by selecting only those elements of the tool which are applicable, enables businesses to develop a bespoke audit report. This can also be used as a self – assessment checklist for smaller companies (<10 employees). To ensure objectivity a randomly selected 25% of self-assessment responses will be required to provide supporting evidence.
A test run of our Plastic user tool, PLuSH has revealed a higher than expected score being achieved by companies. This reflects that many businesses are already trying to reduce their plastic use and understanding the negative impact this use can have on the environment.
Initially, at SEL group, we were under the impression that we were already quite responsible in our plastic use, but we scored 54%, which was lower than we expected. However, since applying the recommendations of PLuSH, we’ve managed to increase our score to 78%!
We still have further improvements to make and hope to achieve a higher score yet in the future.
