Our Story

Our highly qualified team are experts in their disciplines, and are experienced as either corporate managers, certification auditors or enforcement officers. We can apply this perspective when working with you to ensure you are meeting relevant standards.

Our team have twenty years’ experience and we have been operating as Safe Environment Ltd since 1997 and SEL Fire and Event since 2012. In 2017 we combined our services to form the SEL Group Ltd.

Dr Dawn Pope CMIOSH, MIEMA, Cenv

Founder & CO-Owner

 

Dawn started work as an engineer in a nuclear power station and via a route of lead foundry, consultancy and Ford Motor Company came to Stafford to work for Lucas Industries as a Corporate Environmental Health and Safety manager.

Dawn has continued to serve some of the ex-Lucas companies throughout their many acquisitions and divestitures, and has also worked as an auditor and trainer for Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), the British Safety Council and EEF.

She has taught NEBOSH Certificate and Diploma courses and the IEMA Associate Membership course. She is also a mentor for IEMA candidates applying for full membership status.

Dawn has a range of qualifications including a BSC in Occupational Hygiene, MSc in Environmental Pollution Science, LLM in Environmental and Health & Safety Law and a PhD in integrated risk modelling. Her experience and qualifications means she can provide you with a detailed insight into Environmental and Health & Safety issues and help to develop sustainable cost-effective improvements. As she has worked for the past ten years as a certification auditor (ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001) Dawn can also help with the certification process as well as auditing criteria.

Alan McEntire

Alan McEntire

Founder & CO-Owner

Alan has 35 years experience working for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service where he started his career as firefighter and progressed to becoming a senior fire safety specialist. During his firefighting career Alan’s specialisms included petroleum licencing and specialist fire investigation. Alan has been a member of the Chief Fire Officer’s Association national ‘Business Safety Group,’ which was involved in the production and implementation of guidance and auditing for both businesses and enforcers.

Alan has extensive experience of advising on fire safety and risk reduction at large events and has worked as a safety officer at both the London Olympic Games and Glasgow Commonwealth Games. He is currently responsible for the fire safety of the V Festival, along with providing the firefighting cover at this event.

Alan set up and chaired the national Fire & Rescue Service Event Safety Group and was one of the authors of the Event Safety Guide.

Dr. Nicolette Lawson

Dr. Nicolette Lawson

Nicolette has a unique range of experiences and qualifications. 

With a first degree in Mechanical Engineering and an Engineering Doctorate focusing on Environmental Performance Indicators in Industrial Management Systems, she has industrial experience as a Manufacturing Systems Engineer on Lean Manufacturing and Change projects and an Environmental Manager for a global manufacturing company. 

Latterly her interest in personal change has led to a career in hypnotherapy, coaching and mentoring.  Nicolette is ideally placed to combine the technical and creative aspects of this Plastic Thinking project in order to be a catalyst for deeply effective, lasting change and insights for participants.
